The Crotone Coast Guard carried out two separate seizures in the territory of Isola Capo Rizzuto as part of a vast control activity aimed at protecting maritime state property and environmental protection.

In the first intervention, the military seized two wooden buildings measuring approximately 50 square meters in total, used as a kiosk bar and infirmary room in the Praialonga area. The structures were still present on state land despite the concession that authorized their occupation having expired on 1 October 2025, the date by which they should have been removed. The failure to remove it led to the seizure and referral of the person responsible for illegal occupation of state-owned land, as well as the activation of the competent Authority for the quantification of the compensation due.

The second seizure concerned an oil mill of approximately 150 square metres, also located in the municipality of Isola Capo Rizzuto, where environmental controls revealed several critical issues. The vegetation water produced during the washing and defoliation of the olives was discharged directly onto the external soil of the structure and, by gravity, into a nearby drainage channel.

The waters deriving from centrifugation, although communicated via SCIA, did not have the mandatory registration and the technical report on agronomic use. Furthermore, the plant did not have the necessary discharge authorization for other types of industrial and rainwater wastewater.

In light of the violations found, the entire oil mill was seized and the owner was referred to the Judicial Authority for crimes envisaged by the Consolidated Environmental Law (Legislative Decree 152/2006). Environmental regulations may be issued which, if respected within the established timeframes, will allow the regularization of the activity and the subsequent release from seizure.

The Crotone Coast Guard underlines how these operations fall within the priority activities indicated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, aimed at protecting the territory, the environment and public goods, with a constant fight against illicit activities.
