An attack against prison police personnel was carried out in the Catanzaro prison where, yesterday morning, a prisoner was first saved by the officers from an attempted hanging and, subsequently, in an evident state of confusion, perhaps due to the intake of stimulants, he attacked a superintendent of the penitentiary policehitting him with punches.

Giovanni Battista Durante, deputy general secretary of Sappe, made this known. The superintendent was treated and deemed recoverable in seven days. «We ask that all the regulatory and administrative provisions envisaged be implemented against the prisoner responsible for the attack – says Durante – including the transfer to another region, given that it is no longer possible to tolerate such violence towards the staff on duty . Our closeness and best wishes for a speedy recovery to the colleague who was the victim of the attack.”
