Glass shattered and various damages. Once again, acts of vandalism have been recorded inside the car park of the regional Citadel. The damage to vehicles by unknown persons dates back to a few days ago and adds to the numerous incidents of which employees or visitors were victims. As if that wasn’t enough, there was also one on Friday the theft of a vehicle: it was around 4.30 pm, when an employee of the “Public Works” Department realized that his small car was no longer present inside the regional car park. After having filed a complaint, the worker also experienced the odyssey of returning home, which being in Delianuova, in the province of Reggio Calabria, he only managed to reach very late in the evening. The victim of this sad story is an employee who every day has to travel approximately 260 kilometers to reach his workplace and has suffered this unworthy theft, which the regional administration should have prevented at all costs, given and considering the numerous appeals launched already in the past.
The news was given by the union leader of CSA-Cisal Gianluca Tedesco which states: “The workers of the Regional Council are increasingly worried about the dangerous escalation of this sad phenomenon. The request is simple: adopt measures as soon as possible to avoid damage and theft. For years now, thieves and vandals have been operating undisturbed inside the Cittadella car park; it is therefore necessary to expand the surveillance service, perhaps with the extension of services of the existing contract and, in addition and/or alternatively, activate a video surveillance system to discourage criminals from carrying out these crimes.
“We are deeply sorry and humanly indignant – added Tedesco – for what is happening. We cannot but firmly condemn such acts of vandalism and theft which unfairly affect the workers of the Regional Council and visitors. It is no longer acceptable that employees, engaged in their daily work, have to live with the worry of not finding their cars or of seeing them damaged and, to add to the further insult, of being forced to pay considerable sums out of their own pockets for repairs. damage suffered to their vehicles”. The union leader concludes: “Parking safety is a fundamental service for workers and visitors of the Citadel and the Administration has the duty to guarantee it. We hope that urgent action will be taken to prevent such incidents from occurring.”
