Catanzaro mourns the passing of two personalities who contributed significantly to the recent history of the city. They are remembered by the mayor Nicola Fiorita, who in a note expresses the condolences of the entire municipal administration for the death of Mario Antonini and Rosario Militano.
«In these hours, so hard and difficult for Catanzaro – states Fiorita – the city also mourns the passing of two figures who marked the world of professions and the institutional fabric, in important years for the consolidation and growth of the regional capital».
The profile of Mario Antonini
According to the mayor, Antonini was for a long time “the soul of one of the most authoritative commercial firms”, representing a point of reference for the local economy. His commitment, however, went far beyond his professional activity, leading him to hold important positions in institutions such as the Bank of Italy, the University, the Chamber of Commerce, Comalca, Confindustria and the courts of all the Calabrian provinces.
«A sober and discreet man, as well as a high profile professional – underlines Fiorita – he leaves an important legacy not only to his family and collaborators, but also to the city, as a testimony of seriousness, scrupulousness and commitment».
The memory of Rosario Militano
The mayor, however, also links Militano’s memory to personal memories, born from an ancient bond and common political militancy with his father. A pediatrician with long experience, Militano will be remembered by the many Catanzaro families who were able to appreciate not only his professional skills, but also his human qualities.
As a leader of the Christian Democrats and municipal councilor, he demonstrated “true and sincere attachment to Catanzaro”, embodying civil and moral values which, according to Fiorita, should be rediscovered today in light of the crisis in the relationship between citizens, institutions and politics.
