If you see him from afar, with that cut and that hair color, you think of Luka Modric, former Ballon d’Or winner and star of Real Madrid. Jacopo Petriccione really resembles him, with the necessary proportions he also reminds him a little for the way he moves on the pitch, in which he occupies more or less the same areas as the Croatian phenomenon: the midfield, from where he directs his team’s maneuver.
Until last week Petriccione acted as captain of Crotone, from now on he will be able to dictate the times and rhythms of Catanzaro.
While waiting for the injured Ghion, who has been out of action for more than a month and a half at this point, to return, the Giallorossi have taken precautions with a director who is close to him in terms of quality and ability, a classic and modern playmaker at the same time, like no other there were some in the squad after the Sassuolo boy stopped. In short, someone like Petriccione, who runs the ball and doesn’t spare himself in the defensive phase, was useful like hotcakes. Catanzaro took it by purchasing it from the Pythagoreans, who initially did not want to sell it. After having registered the will of the person concerned, the decisive meeting took place in the early afternoon of yesterday. Immediately afterwards the club discussed with the player’s agent the details of a contract that binds him to the Eagles until 30 June 2026, two and a half years from today. Tomorrow he could already sit on the bench in the “Ceravolo” match against Palermo.
Another addition from Serie C after Antonini, therefore, but Petriccione knows very well what awaits him in Serie B, a category he has frequented for a long time and with many shirts. From the warmth of Terni and Bari when he was still very young up to the glorious years with the Giallorossi of Lecce, where he won the championship as a protagonist and played in Serie A as a protagonist, and where the fans also called him “Modriccione” precisely because the similarity with Croatian.
Jacopo, who will turn twenty-nine in February, also experienced the pinnacle of Italian football in Crotonea place that he re-embraced last year in a tournament in which he was one of the last to surrender in the two derbies in which Catanzaro demonstrated that he had at least one advantage over his cousins.
Born in Gradisca di Isonzo, Petriccione has Caserta origins (on his father’s side, a carabiniere), he loves basketball (he supports Golden State and Step Curry), but he made it in football starting from the Friulian Itala San Marco (Petagna’s teammate) first to pass through the youth centers of Cagliari, Siena and Fiorentina, his last youth stage in which he played with Chiesa, Bernardeschi and Mancini and in which he had the opportunity to train alongside David Pizarro, one of his idols together with Pirlo. He has toured half of Italy, Petriccione, now he can take Catanzaro into his hands.
Other objectives. In midfield, an exchange with Cosenza between the attacking winger D’Andrea (from Sassuolo) and Viviani (loaned from Benevento to the rossoblù) was also hypothesized, but the arrival of Petriccione should have closed the spaces in midfield. Those in attack are not closed: in addition to Moro (Spezia), they also like De Luca (Sampdoria) and the Maric (Monza) dream has never waned.
