Taken from his mother on the recommendation of the Social Services of the Municipality of San Marco Argentano, due to a therapeutic choice deemed by the woman to be too invasive and with side effects deemed excessive. This is the motivation behind the complex story in which the eight-year-old boy currently staying in a family home in the Tyrrhenian town has been the protagonist – for weeks now and in spite of himself. Who, however, at the end of each weekly interview (only 45 minutes) asks only to be able to go home. According to what was reported by the family, the minor was, in fact, removed after the mother expressed her opposition to the administration of a drug indicated for a neurodivergent condition of the minor, considering it too burdensome due to the side effects. The woman would have acted in agreement with the pediatrician in question, but the Social Services interpreted this position as an “oppositional” attitude, initiating proceedings which led to the suspension of parental responsibility and the appointment of a guardian. For the mother, who never stopped claiming her role and her bond with her son, this represented a profound trauma, exacerbated by the fact that the child was placed in a residential facility, which did not meet the requirements requested by the Court at the time. In the family home, the child reportedly reported being subjected to aggressive behavior by another older guest, a circumstance which the mother reported to the lawyers and which fuels the child’s desire to return to his home. In this context, the medical issue takes on even more importance: the contested drug should be administered in compliance with AIFA procedures and by a specialist. Therefore, the mother’s lawyers, in view of the hearing at the beginning of December which will establish the child’s future, will ask for specialist advice to verify how the therapy is currently being managed. Faced with the suspension of parental responsibility, the mother nevertheless attempted to obtain information on the state of health of her son through a long letter addressed to his guardian, despite the latter having replied that he was required to report exclusively to the Juvenile Court.
