Alessio Ricco, the serial robber framed by DNA, that robbery ended badly and a chapter is still open. The events that revolve around the 40-year-old are a mix of robberies, an accomplice killed during a robbery and a subsequent ambush in Cetraro with investigative contours and developments to be clarified. First of all, certain confirmation arrived after more than twenty years thanks to genetic analysis. According to investigators, Ricco – believed to be close to the Muto clan – was responsible for a series of attacks on fuel stations along the Tyrrhenian coast of Cosenza in the early 2000s. Starting with the 2003 robbery in Guardia Piemontese in which the manager was threatened with a gun pointed at his forehead, thrown to the ground and forced to hand over around 900 euros, the day’s takings. Investigations at the time led to the discovery, in a nearby municipality, of the stolen car used in the robbery. A balaclava was seized inside. The RIS of Messina extracted a genetic profile which, preserved for years, was recently found to be comparable to the DNA of the suspect: an element considered decisive for the accusation. Then there was the robbery of 2004. Alessio Ricco has already been convicted for the attack on the petrol pump in Acquappesa. On that occasion one of the criminals, 20-year-old Eugenio Martilotta, lost his life.
