Moments of strong tension in Corigliano-Rossano, where two carabinieri were injured during a road checkpoint. The accident occurred while the Carabinieri were engaged in routine activities to ensure safety and compliance with traffic rules: a motorbike, instead of stopping at the required halt, suddenly accelerated, hitting the two carabinieri. According to what has been reconstructed, the driver of the vehicle deliberately ignored the order to stop, running over the soldiers and fleeing. The injured policemen were rescued and transported to hospital for treatment. Their conditions, although serious, would not be such as to cause fear for their lives. The SIM Carabinieri, the first trade union of the force, intervened on the episode, expressing immediate closeness and solidarity with the colleagues involved in the accident. The union defined the gesture as serious, irresponsible and unacceptable, underlining how similar behavior represents an alarming sign of growing aggression and lack of respect towards the police.
The SIM Carabinieri also made it known that it had taken action to guarantee the two soldiers and their families every form of human, legal and trade union support in this difficult moment. A concrete closeness, which accompanies the clear condemnation of acts that seriously put at risk the safety of those who work daily for the safety of citizens.
The Deputy National General Secretary of the Carabinieri SIM, Antonio Aprile, also intervened firmly, asking for immediate regulatory intervention: «A strong and concrete action by the Government to introduce and make the crime of escape can no longer be postponed. Only in this way will it be possible to have a real impact on criminal behavior that puts the lives of uniformed operators at risk and counteract a dangerous mentality that considers the investment of the police as an escape route.”
