Late in the evening of yesterday 23 January 2026, the Carabinieri of the Corigliano Calabro Scalo station, dependent on the Territorial Department of Corigliano Rossano, at the conclusion of a complex enforcement maneuver aimed at repressing clandestine arms trafficking, with the coordination of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Castrovillari, directed by the Chief Prosecutor Alessandro D’Alessio, arrested a crime suspect 23-year-old local offender, seriously suspected of the crime relating to “possession of an illegal pistol”.
Investigations and house searches
For some days the military had suspected that a well-known local criminal might have illegally possessed weapons in his possession. Reason why, yesterday afternoon, members of the Carabinieri Station of Corigliano Calabro Scalo forcefully reached the home of the interested party, where a meticulous house search was carried out.
The discovery of the gun in the chimney
Given that no illegally detained objects were found in the house directly attributable to the recipient of the judicial police operations, the searches were extended to all appurtenances of the same structure. Inside an adjacent building now in disuse, hidden inside a chimney, an extremely carefully packaged casing was found which contained a HS Produkt SF 19 brand semi-automatic pistol, 9×21 caliber, with the serial number abraded and equipped with the relevant magazines.
Ballistic investigations and judicial measures
Following the first rapid checks, the weapon was found to be functioning and in perfect condition, so much so that it could be considered “ready for use”. Complex laboratory tests, including ballistic tests, will now be carried out on the gun to understand whether it has been used in other criminal actions.
The Carabinieri involved in the service, after the discovery of the weapon, carried out specific investigations from which indications of responsibility emerged regarding the “detention” of the gun, attributable to the convicted recipient of the search. For this reason the man was subjected to a “crime arrest” carried out by the Prosecutor for the alleged crime mentioned. Having completed the legal tasks, the arrested subject was confined to the Castrovillari Prison, where he will remain at the disposal of the Magistrates of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of that same centre.
