There is a story made of words and a story told by images. Once upon a time, the task of capturing features of places, people and cities was entrusted to the mastery of painters, then the task passed to photographers, artists as much as painters. And the Festival of Invasions – a creature imagined by Franco Dionesalvi and “blessed” by James Mancini in times now long gone – opens with a photographic exhibition. A precise choice made to perpetuate the memory of alleys and neighborhoods of the Bruzio capital.
The exhibition is entitled “Views of the city” and is the work of the master Francesco Arenahistorical photographer of The Southern GazetteThe mayor will be there to inaugurate it tomorrow, Franz Carusothe councilor responsible for Culture, Antonietta Musselthe artistic director of Invasions, Gianluigi Fabiano and the director of the House of Cultures, True Secrets.
Antonietta Coza explains: «These are “diffuse glances” in black and white which, through the zoom of the camera, tell micro-stories of a city that changes and transforms. The gaze rests between the junctions of the Parco del Benessere – formerly Viale Mancini – the widenings of via Popilia and via Reggio Calabria and lingers on the change of an old area of the city that is innervated between the new buildings and the old constructions. The black and white chromaticism gives great strength and significance to the image that takes on a life of its own that is particularly attractive to the viewer. In particular, the shots on viale del Benessere that become intriguing narratives of an “invasion” of vitality: boys who soar between skateboards and throwing balls, others who play cricket or chase a ping pong ball. From these shots, the exploration of two other themes that run parallel to the changing city slowly takes shape: the boys who play and the foreign faces integrated into the community”.
