State police personnel carried out, as part of the extraordinary services ordered by the Police Commissioner of the Province of Cosenza, Giuseppe Cannizzaro, and coordinated by the local Public Prosecutor’s Office directed by the Prosecutor Mario Spagnuolo, various checks in the Cosenza hinterland, aimed at combating the spread of explosive materials and pyrotechnic devices illegally detained due to the approach of the next end-of-year holidays.
A young man was arrested by the Flying Squad, with the collaboration of the bomb squad unit of the Bruzia Police Headquarters and the Bomb Squad Dog Unit of the Vibo Valentia Police Headquarters, for the crime referred to in art. 2 and 5 L. 895 of 1967 and 648 cp and art. 678 cp, in relation to art. 47 TULPS, or for having possessed explosive material of an illegal nature, failure to report explosive material, receiving illegal explosive material.
In particular, following a house search carried out pursuant to art. 41 TULPS, inside the garage belonging to the subject’s home, dozens of packages containing explosive material with a total weight of over 44 kg, not regularly reported, were found and seized. The search, which also included the suspect’s car, also led to the discovery of 25 sticks of a prohibited type, hidden inside the trunk, for a total weight of over 800 grams of explosives. In this circumstance, the unsuitability of the premises for the storage of explosives and pyrotechnic devices was also ascertained.
Furthermore, in the same operational context, a man was referred to the judicial authorities for the crime of possession of ammunition not duly reported.
The presence of the State Police appears to be increasingly incisive, especially during this Christmas period, when thousands of people flock to the city centre, even inside the premises where, sometimes in a casual manner, alcoholic drinks are administered to minors. In this regard, personnel of the Flying Squad assisted by personnel of the Flying Squad, in recent days, engaged in the “anti-movida” device, intervened in a well-known city street because a violent fight had broken out between two groups of boys.
At the sight of the officers, the people involved suddenly disappeared into the nearby streets but were promptly intercepted. They showed signs of a struggle visible from the obvious abrasions and swelling on the face, so much so that medical assistance and an ambulance were requested. At the end of the necessary care, the necessary police checks were carried out where it was ascertained that all four of the participants involved appeared to be burdened by countless criminal records for crimes against the person, property and in the field of dealing and possession of narcotic substances.
Due to the above, they were referred to the competent judicial authority. All this is communicated in compliance with the rights of the suspects (to be considered presumed innocent in consideration of the current phase of the proceedings until a definitive finding of guilt with an irrevocable sentence) in order to guarantee the right to freedom of the press.
