He remains in prison Maysoon Majidithe twenty-eight-year-old Iranian women’s rights activist arrested on December 31 last year in Crotone on the accusation of having been one of the smugglers of a migrant landing.
The Court of Crotone, before which the activist is accused of aiding and abetting illegal immigration, rejected the request made by the lawyer Giancarlo Liberati, the woman’s defender, for the granting of house arrest. The public prosecutor, Maria Rosaria Multari, opposed the request.
The defender had also asked that the activist be fitted with an electronic bracelet as a guarantee regarding the possible risk of escape. The Court rejected the request, motivating the decision with the existence of precise precautionary needs. The activist has always proclaimed her innocence and in recent months, for a period, she even went on a hunger strike.
Today’s is the fifth request for house arrest for Maysoon Majidi which has been rejected by the Court of Crotone. Meanwhile, the request for revocation of the precautionary custody order issued against the activist presented by his lawyer remains pending, on which the Catanzaro Review Court will rule at the hearing scheduled for 18 October.
