The Innsbruck Prosecutor’s Office has requested the indictment of a 56-year-old Austrian and his 54-year-old brother. The first is accused of killing a 34-year-old woman and her 10-year-old daughter and then hiding the bodies, with the help of his brother, in a giant freezer hidden behind a plasterboard wall in an anonymous warehouse in the Tyrolean city.
The disappearance and the suspicions
Mother and daughter had been missing since July 2024, but the bodies were found only in November 2025. The alarm was raised by a relative of the woman, of Syrian origin, who lives in Germany and who was worried about the long silence. Austrian investigators immediately suspected the man, a work colleague of the 34-year-old. The two had also had a relationship.
The man had told the police that the woman had undertaken a long trip to Turkey with her daughter, but the movements in the bank account and the withdrawals from the woman’s ATM had attracted the attention of the investigators, as well as the fact that the mobile phones of the two disappeared had remained in Innsbruck. Meanwhile, the man had also sold some of the woman’s jewellery.
Confession and the freezer
The two men were arrested in June 2025, but only months later did the 56-year-old confess to hiding the bodies, but denied the murder. According to him, it was an accident. Finally, following the man’s directions, the police located the hidden freezer. The brother denies having knowledge of the crime, claiming that he only helped transport the freezer.
