The preliminary investigation phase for the reclamation project starts from Catalyzed hydraulic conglomerate (Cic) of the area where it stands‘Lucifero’ commercial technical institute of Crotone. The Ministry of the Environment has in fact convened the Services Conference which will have to express its opinion on the Reclamation operational plandrawn up by the Municipality as implementing body, which it plans to remove 4,402.40 tons of Cic from the area that is part of the Crotone Site of National Interest. The interventions, worth 3,097,467.22 euros, will now have to receive the green light from, among others, Arpacal, Ispra, Asp and the Higher Institute of Health, called to send their opinions to Mase. Then, the department will be able to call the decision-making Services Conference for the definitive evaluation of the works.
The safety measures of the “Lucifero” Institute are among the environmental remediation works that affect the four public areas of Crotone in which the waste from industrial production deriving from the former Pertusola Sud plant is disposed of: on one side the San Francesco school , whose construction site opened its doors several months ago; on the other, the Aterp accommodation in the Margherita area and in the Lampanaro district. The Pob contemplates the division of the “Lucifer” area into four lots. While the operations that will be examined by the bodies that will take part in the CDS investigation are in summary: the start of excavations to bring the contaminating substances to the surface preceded by preliminary checks; loading the excavated soil into roll-off containers; covering the cells at the end of the excavations with waterproof sheets; the installation of parapets around excavations to protect workers; and the drying of groundwater if necessary. In detail, the technical report reports, «excavation and material handling activities» containing “Cic” «represent those at greatest risk for the workers involved». And since these are «excavations in an area for school use – continues the document – it is considered necessary to schedule them in the summer period coinciding with the closure of educational activities, also by virtue of the short duration of the works».
