“Yesterday afternoon the Council of Ministers approved a state of national emergency for Sicily, Calabria and Sardinia, and at the same time promptly allocated 100 million euros to deal with the very first emergencies.
We are talking about essential funds to allow Municipalities to intervene immediately: removal of debris, securing areas, restoring essential services and supporting urgent expenses already incurred. It was necessary to act quickly, and the government did so without hesitation.
Now, after the Regions have transmitted a detailed and timely picture of the damage, it will be possible to proceed, as already foreseen, with further and obviously much more substantial allocations, those intended for the actual reconstruction.
It is a serious, responsible procedure that has already been successfully tested in other national emergencies, starting with Emilia Romagna.
Those who today talk about ‘crumbs’ or try to fuel instrumental propaganda or deliberately ignore the functioning of the Civil Protection tools, or consciously choose to make absurd controversies at the expense of the citizens involved.
The government – with Prime Minister Meloni and Minister Musumeci at the head – is at work, methodically and concretely, and will accompany the affected communities in all phases: from the emergency to reconstruction, without slogans but with concrete actions and adequate resources”.
Thus Matilde Siracusano, undersecretary for relations with Parliament and Sicilian deputy of Forza Italia.
