The competition announcement for the tenth edition of the Giovanni Grillo National Awarddedicated to the thousands of Italian military internees of the Second World War, entitled: “Discipline and honor for a new model of citizenship”
Conceived and promoted by the Foundation of the same name, the initiative takes place in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Merit and enjoys the patronage of Ministry of Culture, of theAir Forceof theFerruccio Parri National Institute, Of Rai For ESG Sustainability and the Media Partnership of Rai Culture.
Purpose of this year’s competitionstates Michelina Grillo, President and creator of the Award, it is the reflection inspired by article 54 of the Constitution which establishes the duty to be faithful to the Republic and to observe its Constitution and laws. For this reason, the sense of the Resistance of the Italian Military Internees, in its triple aspect of: “loyalty” to the legitimate institution, “discipline” strengthened by the military status and of “honour” understood in its individual and public value, is a model of primary obligation for all citizens.
These values are prescriptive for public employees (some of today’s students will certainly be so tomorrow), but they can also constitute a renewal proposal for a model of citizenship also open to new citizens, according to an inclusive perspective based on prevalence of the common good over personal interests.
Interested students from lower and upper secondary schools throughout the country are invited to read up on the events of the Italian military internees and to reconstruct them in an expository-argumentative form, through the many methods provided. (films, documentaries, clips, photographic stories, plays, songs, poems, etc.), a couple of significant experiences referring to episodes (of the present and the past) of commitment to the defense of the institutions and of loyalty to duty, even at the price of sacrifices, moral and sometimes even material.
