A ship southeast of the port of Aden, Yemen, reports being hit by a drone. This was announced by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (Ukmto) organisation, reported by the Guardian. UKMTO said the master reported that “the vessel was hit on the port side by an unmanned aerial system. There was a fire on board which has now been put out.” The crew and the vessel have been secured and are heading towards the nearest port of call.
Meanwhile, Yemen’s Houthis said they had targeted the US bulk carrier Genco Picardy with missiles resulting in a “direct hit”. In a statement from the spokesperson of the Houthi group, Yahya Sareait reads: “Naval forces will not hesitate to target all sources of threats in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea as part of the legitimate right to defend Yemen and continue to support the oppressed Palestinian people.”
