Twist in the Supreme Court: the sentence that sentenced him to 6 years and 8 months in prison Francesco Di Maio, a 20 year old young man originally from Spadafora, was cancelled. An unexpected turnaround that surprised everyone. Di Maio, defended by the lawyer Salvatore Silvestrohad been found guilty in the first degree of attempted aggravated murder, accused of having voluntarily hit with his Ford Fiesta a former schoolmate and a friend who were traveling on a scooter in the center of Milazzo.

The Supreme Court made an unexpected decision, annulling the conviction and sending the case back to the Court of Appeal. The incident dates back to June 28, 2021, around 1:30 am, when Di Maio allegedly tried to approach his former schoolmate in a club, showing an interest in him. After the girl’s alleged refusal, according to the first and second degree sentences, Di Maio planned revenge.

On the night of the incident, between Piazza Caio Duilio and Via Piraino, Di Maio waited for the girl and her friend to pass on a scooter and then hit them with his car, without ever slowing down, in an attempt to kill them, according to the prosecution. The images coming from two commercial businesses had played a decisive role in the reconstruction of the dynamics of the accident, but today everything was called into question with the twist of the Court of Cassation.
