Raffaele Fitto will be Executive Vice President of the European Commission with responsibility for Cohesion and Reforms. The President announced this Ursula von der Leyen. The other executive vice presidents are: Teresa Ribera (Spain) will be the first Executive Vice President and will be responsible for the just, clean and competitive transition, Stephane Sejourne (France) for Industrial Policy, Kaya Kallas (Estonia) will be the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy; Henna Verkunnen (Finland) will be responsible for digital sovereignty, security and democracy, Roxana Minzatu (Romania) will be responsible for people, skills and training.

“Today I will present my team for the next five years. A team of competent and motivated women and men, ready to work together. For a stronger Union. For a safer Europe. For a more competitive Europe”. This was announced by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, at the press conference in Strasbourg. “The entire College is committed to competitiveness and decarbonisation. The new College of the Commission is based on our political guidelines. These have been intense weeks of negotiations with the Member States. The first step from the guidelines is to define our priorities, which are prosperity, security and democracy, against the backdrop of competitiveness and the green and digital transitions. As the Draghi report says, more coordination between policies is needed».

The outgoing Commissioner for Enlargement, the Hungarian Oliver Varhelyiwill be Commissioner for Health and Animal Welfare. The Dutch Wopke Hoekstra will be Climate Commissioner. The Austrian Magnus Brunner will be Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration. The Lithuanian Andrius Kubilius will be the Commissioner for Defense. The Polish Peter Serafin will be the Budget Commissioner. The Luxembourger Christophe Hansen will be Commissioner for Agriculture. The Danish Dan Jorgensen will be Commissioner for Energy and Housing. The Portuguese Maria Luis Albuquerque will be the Commissioner responsible for Financial Services, Savings and Investment Union.

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stressed in a press conference that “the commissioners do not represent the country, they represent Europe and our common cause. For this reason, regardless of the country you come from, you can have an important role. Otherwise, it would not be the right approach for a common European policy”.
