The president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), called the decision of the United States authorities to grant a male visa to the Federal Transgender deputy, “abominable”, Erika Hilton, invited to a conference at the University of Harvard. Lula’s position takes place after the response of the US embassy to Brasilia to a government protest note where it is declared that “the government of President Donald Trump recognizes only two sexes: the male and the female one”.
“It is Brazil that has the right to recognize the genre of the deputy, and above all of her, not of a Trump decree,” said the Brazilian leader. After canceling his participation in the Harvard conference that was held on April 12, Hilton announced in turn that he will present a complaint to the United Nations against the Washington government by defining that of the Trump government as “a clear, perverse and cruel expression of what is state transfobia practiced by the American government”.
