Frost in the streets and invisible discomfort, Mancini calls the Municipality of Cosenza into question

The breath in the deep chest of Cosenza, in these festive days, has become short. A collective anxiety that on winter nights makes the silence heavier than the frost, when the streets empty and the cold enters the bones of those who have no defenses, neither material nor social. They are men and women pushed to the margins, entire families with children in tow, presences that remain “invisible” only to those who choose not to look. This is where the accusation of Giacomo Mancini, leader of the Calabria Democratic Party and former socialist parliamentarian, starts, based on a video spread on social media. “If you live in a neighborhood like mine, you know that there are many people who suffer from the cold, and are already out on the streets early in the morning looking for the warmth of the first rays of the sun.” A picture that Mancini extends to the entire city: «In Cosenza there are many stories of difficulty, poverty, marginalization. of loneliness. Who deserve attention, closeness, support.” The choices of the municipal administration end up in the crosshairs.

Fragile abandoned people

«Unfortunately in these dark years for Cosenza, relatives and relatives have been placed in the Municipality», he attacks, referring to the competitions announced by Palazzo dei Bruzi. «Fragile people, on the other hand, have been abandoned. We have listened to the chatter of those who fill their mouths with socialism, but who every day betray our glorious ideals of solidarity, equality and social justice. The time has come to move on.” The proposal is a vision of the city that puts those left behind back at the center. «A city is not just streets, squares, buildings. A city – continues Mancini – is first and foremost about people.” And again: «Cosenza needs a new municipal welfare network. Emergency social intervention, active ageing, social concierge, solidarity stores, social housing and co-housing, fight against school dropout, benefits for the practice of sports, neighborhood libraries and playrooms, proximity to people with disabilities, residential care and after us”. The closure is an appeal that sounds like a political line: «Cosenza can only start to grow again from the bottom. We must defeat arrogance, arrogance and arrogance. Cosenza deserves better.”
