Jonas Vingegaard wins the ninth stage of the 2026 Giro d’Italia solo, the 184 km Cervia-Corno alle Scale. The action by the Dane in the final was decisive, according to Felix Gall (Decathlon CMA CGM Team), who arrived 12″ late; third Davide Piganzoli, teammate of Vingegaard himself. The race was animated by the escape of eight riders: Jonas Geens (Alpecin – Premier Tech), Martin Marcellusi (Bardiani CSF 7 Saber), Lorenzo Milesi (Movistar Team), Einer Rubio (Movistar Team), Tim Naberman (Team Picnic PostNL), Mattia Bais (Team Polti VisitMalta), Sakarias Koller Loland (Uno-X Mobility) and Davide Ballerini (XDS Astana Team) gained approximately 2 minutes on the pink jersey group, which left room for the attack. 73 kilometers from the finish line it was Giulio Ciccone (Lidl – Trek) who broke the mould, the blue rider’s sprint moving Toon Aerts (Lotto Intermarchè) and Diego Ulissi (XDS Astana Team) from the group. 11 kilometers from the finish Ciccone tried everything, only Rubio managed to respond: the two gained about 23″ on their breakaway companions, then 7.5 from the finish Ciccone himself set off alone, leaving the Colombian behind. Visma forced the pace in the last kilometres, Giulio Pellizzari was also in difficulty, 2.2 km from the finish line Gall and Vingegaard left everyone behind and recovered all the advantage accumulated by Ciccone. The two battled it out for the win at the end, with 700 meters to go the Visma captain made a gap and went on to win his second stage of this Corsa Rosa, after Friday’s success. The Portuguese Afonso Eulalio remains at the top of the general classification, losing around 40″: now Vingegaard is at 2’24”, while Gall is at 2’59”. Pellizzari instead reached the finish line with a delay of 1’28”. Tomorrow will be the rest day; then on Tuesday the time trial, or the Viareggio-Massa, of 42 km.
