“We are not relaunching a public health system that is in a situation that to define as dramatic is only an understatement, by creating four paid beds in a hospital, that of Annunziata, which is at the rear of the country’s system. Furthermore, it is not a valid justification to rely on the so-called Bindi Law which offers the possibility of opening spaces for solvents even in public hospitals, but where the services are certainly efficient and guarantee the levels of assistance”. This is what the mayor says Franz Carusowho continues: “At the Annunziata in Cosenza this is not only not possible, it is not admissible. Indeed, it is a real shame to expect the serious critical situation that our hospital is experiencing where the right to treatment is not guaranteed, despite the commitment and professionalism of the healthcare workers. Due to a lack of beds, in the Annunziata emergency room, which was also inaugurated a few months ago, there is an open space, nicely repainted for goodness sake, in which patients who, instead, should find immediate access are kept for hours and days. accommodation in the departments. This is not possible because our hospital, out of the 730 places assigned, today occupies just over half of them. So what do we do? It is decided to preserve four beds in favor of “solvent” paying people, taking them away from those who perhaps need them most, but do not have adequate economic possibilities to use them. All this is wicked, unacceptable, intolerable.”
“I said it and I repeat it – concludes Franz Caruso – I am not against private healthcare, but it cannot be a substitute for public serviceswhich must be protected and strengthened to guarantee a universal right. I therefore believe it is necessary that the choice to allocate the four paying beds in the Annunziata thoracic surgery department be immediately revoked in order to protect the rights of all and not those of a few”.
