Crotone healthcare risks a new hard blow. The FP CGIL and the CGIL Area Vasta Catanzaro-Crotone-Vibo Valentia raise an alarm on the fate of dozens of precarious healthcare workers serving at the ASP of Crotone, whose fixed-term contracts are now close to expiring.

According to the trade unions, failure to immediately renew could have serious effects on the entire provincial healthcare system, with the real risk of putting departments and services already in serious difficulty into crisis.

The crux of the rankings and the role of Company Zero

The situation, the unions explain, would have become further complicated with the transition of the management of the rankings to Company Zero, a circumstance which would be generating delays and operational difficulties in the renewal procedures.

“We cannot allow bureaucratic obstacles or administrative slowdowns to fall on workers and, above all, on citizens,” say the union representatives. “The Crotone area is already experiencing a condition of structural fragility: losing these professionals would mean putting essential services at risk”.

The risks for the healthcare system

FP CGIL and CGIL Area Vasta highlight several possible immediate effects in the event of non-renewal of contracts:

Reduction or cancellation of services: some departments may not be able to cover minimum shifts, resulting in the closure of clinics and reductions in services.

Overload for staff: the remaining operators would be forced to work increasingly heavy shifts, with repercussions on working conditions.

Territorial health emergency: in a province already marked by so-called health desertification, the loss of even a few units would risk further worsening the situation.

Requested an urgent meeting with the ASP

To deal with the emergency, the two unions sent a formal request for an urgent meeting to the leaders of the ASP of Crotone.

“We invite the healthcare company to activate all the necessary procedures to guarantee the renewal of the contracts – declare the unions – and we ask Azienda Zero to favor this path without further delays. It is necessary to open a discussion table immediately: public health and the dignity of work cannot remain hostage to bureaucracy”.

Finally, the CGIL warns that, in the absence of concrete responses and formal acts to protect workers and health services, all the necessary mobilization initiatives will be launched to defend the right to health of the citizens of the province of Crotone.
