An evening of music, memory and civil commitment: this is the heart of the event “I Cento Passi – Musica e Legalità”, promoted by the IIS “Francesco Maurolico” of Messina with the support of the Ministry of Culture and SIAE as part of the national program “Per Chi Crea”. Under the guidance of the school director Giovanna De Francesco, the coordination of the prof. Costantino Lauria, designed by Professor Margherita Casalino, the initiative involves three local youth musical groups: the Maurolico Choir, the Messina Chamber Youth Orchestra and the Children’s Choir of the La Pira–Gentiluomo and Manzoni–Dina and Clarenza Comprehensive Schools.
To embellish the evening, the extraordinary participation of the famous composer Paolo Vivaldi, signature of some of the most important soundtracks of the Italian cinema and television scene.
During the concert, the unpublished piece composed specifically for the event by maestro Vivaldi will be presented for the first time: “Voci Oltre il Silenzio”, which will see the Maestro’s piano, the acting voice of actress Vita Villi, the Maurolico Choir, the Children’s Choir and the Youth Orchestra on stage.
“I Cento Passi – Musica e Legalità” was created to bring young generations closer to the themes of justice, responsibility and civil memory, through the universal language of music. An artistic and educational journey that finds in the song “I cento passi” by the Modena City Ramblers – part of the Coro Maurolico’s repertoire for years – one of its strongest symbols: the struggle and sacrifice of Peppino Impastato, told with a young and aware voice. During the evening, significant pages from Maestro Vivaldi’s repertoire will be performed, dedicated to figures such as Rocco Chinnici, Boris Giuliano, Maria Corleone, men and women who embodied the resistance against organized crime.
