In October, the national consumer price index for the entire community (Nic), including tobacco, showed a change of -0.3% on a monthly basis and +1.2% on an annual basis (from +1.6% in the previous month), confirming the preliminary estimate. This is what Istat communicates, highlighting that on an annual basis the value is slightly lower than the levels at the end of 2024. The significant deceleration in the inflation rate is mainly due to the marked slowdown on a trend basis in the prices of regulated energy (from +13.9% to -0.5%), of unprocessed food (from +4.8% to +1.9%). The negative cyclical change in the general index reflects the decrease in regulated energy prices (-6.4%). Istat finds it.

Istat revises its “shopping cart” estimate downwards, +2.1%

In the month of October, the prices of food, household and personal care goods decelerated (from +3.1% to +2.1%), as did those of high-frequency purchase products (from +2.6% to +2.1%). Istat communicates this by revising downwards the estimate of both the prices of the so-called “shopping cart” and those of high-frequency products (it was +2.3% in the preliminary estimate).
