The proposal launched by Mayor Alfredo Barillari to break away from the Province of Vibo Valentia and return to being part of the Province of Catanzaro will be brought to the City Council in Serra San Bruno.

«We have not found the development possibilities expected with the birth of the Province of Vibo – the mayor told AGI – and citizens suffer various inconveniences in having to go to offices and services in Vibo. The rethinking of the Provinces at a national level is extremely topical and the Serra San Bruno step aims to enrich the debate on the reform of the Delrio law. The Province of Catanzaro is better connected from a road and infrastructural point of view, offering greater efficiency and timeliness in the management of essential public services such as healthcare, transport and education compared to the current situation with the Province of Vibo. Then there are reasons of a historical, cultural, social and economic nature.”

Since Serra San Bruno does not border directly with the provincial territory of Catanzaro, in order to ensure the requirement of territorial continuity, the neighboring municipalities of Brognaturo and Simbario (mayors Rosana Tassone and Gennaro Crispo) were involved in the initiative and supported the idea of returning to the Province of Catanzaro. In these hours, the mayor of the Municipality of Fabrizia, Francesco Fazio, also joined them. The process for moving to another Province however requires a move to the Calabria Region for a non-binding opinion and subsequently the approval of a specific law by Parliament. The Province of Vibo Valentia was established in 1992 and assumed full autonomy in 1995.
