Florence, Milan and Bologna are the metropolitan cities in the top places for equitable and sustainable well-being of the territories (BesT). Reggio di Calabria, on the contrary, experiences the greatest disadvantages. An analysis by Istat compares the 14 metropolitan cities – where 36.2% of the population lives – and shows a predominance, in the North and the Centre, of indicators above the national average, while in the South the disadvantages prevail, with the positive exception of Cagliari. Rome is in an intermediate position “ideally acting as a watershed” between cities in the Centre-North and the South, with advantages in 54.8% of the indicators but also “strong contrasts”.
