Work in 2026 and inauguration of the historic building returned to the community by the summer of 2027. This is the timetable relating to the times for the official reopening of the Norman-Swabian Castle: the imposing ruin that overlooks the oldest part of the Nicastro district, after years of closure, will once again be affected by an important recovery intervention that will allow its reopening and refunctionalization as a cultural asset.
This was also underlined by Mayor Mario Murone himself who confirmed the advances made by the minority councillors, Gianpaolo Bevilacqua and Maria Lucia Raso. «This is a project on the Development and Cohesion Fund which must be assigned by 31 December – underlines the mayor – and through the Single Procurement Center of Reggio Calabria». The project therefore falls within the funds relating to the famous “Urban Agenda”, with which various assets of the city will be subject to redevelopment. For the recovery of the ancient castle there is talk of funding of almost 5 million euros.
