“I ask all political forces that identify with republican institutions, the rule of law, parliamentarism, a European orientation and the defense of French independence, to engage in a sincere and loyal dialogue to build a solid majority, necessarily plural, for the country”: Emmanuel Macron wrote in his “letter to the French”, published today.

In Sunday’s elections, “no one won”, “no political force alone has a sufficient majority and the blocs or coalitions produced by these elections are all minorities”, writes Emmanuel Macron in his “letter to the French”. “Divided in the first round, united by mutual withdrawals in the second, elected thanks to the votes of their former adversaries’ voters – writes Macron – only the republican forces represent an absolute majority. The nature of these elections, marked by a clear demand for change and sharing of power, forces them to build a broad ‘rassemblement'”.

Mélenchon: “Macron should consult us on the appointment of EU commissioner”

“In Europe, in parliamentary democracies, the vote has a certain importance” and “the President of the Republic should take into account the result of the vote: the New Popular Front is the first coalition and should be consulted”. This was stated by the leader of La France Insoumise (Lfi), Jean-Luc Mélenchon, during a press briefing at the European Parliament, responding to a question on the nomination of the next French EU commissioner. “In some countries, we would have the audacity to think that the first group of an Assembly is the most suitable to nominate the commissioners. But the presidential monarchy is unique and has invented its own rules”, he attacked.
