“Regardless, I never like losing.” Even if the defeat comes against a monument of world tennis like Novak Djokovic.

Francesco Maestrelli’s first experience in a Slam ended in front of the Serbian, beaten on the prestigious stage of the Rod Laver Arena.

Maestrelli’s words

“It was an incredible experience, I tried to give everything I had and I think I showed something interesting” explained the 23-year-old from Pisa in a press conference, as reported by Supertennis.

«I’m happy with what I did, he certainly showed me the things I still need to improve on, but it’s a good starting point. Nole has an incredible personality and, despite the result, I think I gave a good performance.”

«I don’t just leave satisfied»

Maestrelli underlined that he tried to remain faithful to his own game ideas: «I tried to stick to the proposals studied with my team and I partly succeeded. When he raises the level he gives the impression that nothing can work, but I’m happy.”

But without hiding his regret: «I don’t like losing, obviously. I don’t leave the pitch just happy to have put in a good performance against a player like him… I would have liked to win, so I’m a bit annoyed.”
