The new academic year has not started in the best way. Once again, like previous years, there are many male and female students left without an ERSU scholarship due to lack of funds. This year the balance is tragic, only 1260 first year students managed to obtain the ERSU 2024/2025 scholarship out of approximately 5000 applicants. The rankings for subsequent years have yet to be published but the data is expected to be in line with the first year rankings. 68% is a frightening percentage if you consider that the cost of living and rents have increased in recent years.
“It is a situation that has been repeating itself for years and which, if no action is taken at ministerial and regional level, will worsen from year to year” – states Emanuele Carlo, coordinator of the UDU Messina – “we hope that in the shortest possible time the rankings can flow, so as to allow everyone to obtain the scholarship. But it’s not enough. Students need certain deadlines that are consistent with their university career; delays represent major economic problems for families who have to support their studies or for male and female students who work to afford their studies.”
