«We can give a certain start to the works: in January. We are between the end and the beginning of the year. That’s 60 million jobs refinanced. We have created the best conditions so that the 30 months can be respected, having completely redone the picture of needs, of what is missing, of what has disappeared over time, of contingencies and new technologies. A framework that finally gives certainty to the company itself that intervenes and to no longer leave an unfinished work which was a mortal and incurable wound within this city.” The undersecretary of Justice said so Andrea Delmastro today in Reggio Calabria for a meeting regarding the works for the completion of the new Palace of Justice. The meeting was held inside the construction site where a room was set up that hosted the institutions interested in the work.
«There was an overall effort – added Delmastro – of all the institutions, starting from the Municipality of Reggio Calabria up to the government, and today I believe we can, with good reason, celebrate a new beginning compared to a tiring, shaky, an architectural wound of this city that it was right to heal.”
«Today – added Delmastro – I believe we have defined with certainty the framework of new interventions to heal the past. I am convinced that the company, even under the vigilant control of all the institutions, will be able to quickly complete this work. It is clear that it is a strategic work for the ministry especially in these lands, especially in these places, to show that the State is no longer retreating. Above all on justice, especially on the fight against organized crime, the State is present and is reclaiming its spaces”.

Pg Dominijanni: the current affairs of the judicial offices are not rosy

«Let’s hope it’s the right time. Now there is the second signature. I hope that the next one will be with the delivery of the keys but let’s see. I must say that this is a small step but we still have things growing as regards the premises of the Attorney General’s Office and I hope to speak with the ministry because while on the one hand we try to speed up, on the other hand we slow down a lot”. This was stated by the Attorney General of Reggio Calabria Gerardo Dominijanni during the meeting, which was attended by Undersecretary Andrea Delmastro, to announce the start of work on the new Palace of Justice. «We perhaps think too much about the future – added Dominijanni – we are not aware of the current situation and the current situation of the judicial offices of Reggio Calabria is not rosy. The Attorney General’s Office has been evicted, and right now we are precarious. Here we are still at the first stone, let’s hope they don’t start a competition with the Strait bridge.” And on the timetable of the works which must be completed in 2 and a half years, Dominijanni expresses doubts: «I’m not a technician but I’m like St. Thomas: if I don’t touch it I don’t believe it, so in 30 months we’ll see. I hope to delve deeper into the real needs of the territory with Undersecretary Delmastro.”

Mayor Falcomatà: end of a very bad page

The mayor of Reggio Calabria is more optimistic Giuseppe Falcomatà according to which this is “the end of a very bad page for everyone”. This is because the completion of the new courthouse, according to the mayor, is “the mother of all battles”. «Doing it – explains Falcomatà – in a context that can also make the exercise of justice more effective and efficient in our territory, in our parts where the fight against the ‘ndrangheta in general, against organized crime and corruption, is undoubtedly the mother of all battles. Now, naturally, from the beginning of January when the construction site gets underway we will constantly monitor the works to avoid any further stoppages. We hope not, of course.”
