A trip to the province for Messina who, this afternoon, will be on stage at the “Gaetano Scirea” in Santa Lucia del Mela where they will face, in a joint training session at 3.30 pm, Nuova Igea Virtus, a Serie D team. A choice to preserve both the turf of the “Franco Scoglio” stadium than that of the “D’Alcontres-Barone” of Barcelona.
The two Giacomo Modica teams will meet again almost a month later and, on that occasion at the “Marullo”, coach Giacomo Modica’s Messina won with a 4-0 score scored by Plescia (double), Ferrara and Cavallo: a summer test which preceded the away debut against Audace Cerignola. This time it is a preparatory training session in view of Sunday’s match against Avellino, scheduled for 2pm in the San Filippo district facility.
Yesterday, however, a double session on Bisconte’s synthetic surface, with the Giallorossi coach evaluating game situations and physical condition, especially of the winger Salvo (difficult recovery) and the midfielder Giunta and, at least the latter, could be available again but without running any risks. However, midfielder Franco is still out and will serve the fourth and final day of his suspension.
The Peloritani have put Avellino in their sights and are arriving there with a great desire for redemption and with the intention, after Turris and Virtus Francavilla, of not accumulating regrets and achieving their first victory of the season. It would be a good injection of confidence to open a month of October which will see Messina, between the championship (recoveries and midweek rounds) and the Italian Cup (against Catania), take to the field eight times in 29 days.
Andrea Ancora from the Roma 1 section is the designated referee for Sunday’s match, with assistants Roberto D’Ascanio from Roma 2 and Massimiliano Starnini from Viterbo; fourth officer Alessandro Gervasi from Cosenza. The young Lazio referee, 35 years old, will take charge of his 40th professional match, but the precedents with Messina are not favourable: the Giallorossi defeated in Foggia and Palermo (again 1-0) and 0-0 on the Ebolitana pitch.
However, Avellino’s only match was positive, winning 3-1 over Vibonese.
The opponent Preparation is also underway in Irpinia, but on a physical level he is certainly not having a good time. Problems for Raffaele Russo, Fabio Tito, Luca Falbo, Sonny D’Angelo and also for Jacopo Dall’Oglio, a midfielder originally from Milazzo, out due to a muscle injury to his right adductor. The team coached by mister Michele Pazienza, who took over from Massimo Rastelli after two defeats in two days, then collected three consecutive useful results against Foggia (0-0), Sorrento (0-1) and Monopoli (4-0) going back up to ninth place with 7 points.
Giugliano without manager Campania club still without coach after the dismissal of Raffaele Di Napoli. The club is evaluating possible alternatives and Giuseppe Raffaele, another former Messina player, would be on pole, albeit for a few days…
Monterosi also changes. Fabrizio Romondini is no longer the coach of the Lazio team, which has collected just 2 points in five matches. Taking his place will be Roberto Taurino, former Avellino and Virtus Francavilla and also linked to Giugliano.
Problems in Taranto More problems for the “Iacovone” stadium. After the postponement of the match against Messina, the Apulian club also submitted a request for postponement for the home match against Audace Cerignola, scheduled for Sunday 1 October at 8.45pm. It is probable, however, that this time the Lega Pro will reject the request and decide for the dispute on a neutral pitch, with the “Viviani” of Potenza as a hypothesis.
