General Pietro Bonura has left us. A career military man (in Messina he served up to the rank of colonel in the Selectors Group for Army officers), and a point of reference for the world of Messina shooting, he was at the helm of the local section for several years, holding the position of president with great dedication and contributing significantly to the growth of the association. His objective has always been to make shooting a reality open to the city, not reserved exclusively for agonists and enthusiasts, but capable of introducing many young people to the sport. In every position he held, he dedicated particular attention to the boys, in the belief that shooting could represent an important training ground for discipline, concentration, responsibility and respect for the rules. A vision that has always led him to strongly support the creation of structures capable of bringing young people closer to sports. Among the most significant results of his commitment, always carried out with the utmost sacrifice and the high sense of responsibility that has always distinguished him, there is in fact the creation, in the Curcuraci section, of an indoor range intended for shooting with compressed air pistols and rifles, defined by legislation as weapons of “low offensive power”. A structure also designed to allow very young people to take their first steps in an Olympic discipline, in a safe and adequately equipped environment.
At the helm of the association he has always imprinted a management characterized by availability, attention to the needs of the members and the desire to make shooting a point of reference not only for those who already practiced the discipline, but for the entire community.
His passing therefore represents an important loss also for those who, over the years, shared this passion with him. General Bonura leaves a legacy made not only of results and structures, but above all of values transmitted through sport. In this painful moment, all the condolences of the “Gazzetta del Sud” go to his wife Mariagrazia, his daughters Gabriella and Daniela, his son-in-law Umberto and his family.
