Visit to the areas of slums of Messina of the president of the parliamentary commission of inquiry into the safety conditions and state of degradation of cities and their suburbs, Alessandro Battilocchio. Accompanied by the Undersecretary for Relations with Parliament Matilde Siracusano and by the sub commissioner Marcello Scurria he visited some of the areas affected by the rehabilitation already freed from the shacks and the Via Rosso da Messina where numerous small houses still stand, inside some of them there are electricity poles and in one there is even an electrical substation. «A complex situation – he said – this is one of the 80 slums in Messina, it is an issue that I have learned about in recent years also thanks to my colleague Matilde Siracusano, and thanks to the legislative action taken with Risana Messina. This is a stage of a journey that we will carry forward with the entire commission at the beginning of 2025, we will make a stage of the commission in Messina. Here we are in a particular suburb but I perceive the idea of a moving path and therefore this model needs to be explored further because it could be replicated in other areas of Italy that share problems and critical issues”. «We will be able to put an end to this torment that has affected the city of Messina for decades. We have built a Messina model that must be exported and replicated because it not only solves the problem of the housing emergency but also that of social inclusion”, added Undersecretary Siracusano.
