A near-tragedy occurred in Messina at the exit of the ring road, at the Gazzi junction, where a public lighting pole suddenly came loose, ending up on the roadway and hitting a car passing along the ramp.
The driver of the car was a woman who, despite the sudden impact, demonstrated great quick reflexes, managing to maintain control of the vehicle and avoid going off the road. The impact caused the windshield to completely shatter, but far more serious consequences were averted for a few moments.
The driver, in shock, was rescued and transported to the emergency room of the Polyclinic, where she was assisted and subjected to checks. Fortunately his condition does not cause concern.
The traffic police officers intervened on site to carry out surveys and manage the traffic, the staff of the Sicilian Autostrade Consortium, who removed the pole, and the 118 health workers. The episode rekindles attention on the safety of the infrastructures and on the need for constant checks to prevent situations of serious danger for motorists.
