The memory of Totò Schillaci and Christian Argurio characterized the pre-match of Messina-Casertana. Moments of great emotion: the message from Antonio Bellopede, former teammate with the “bastards” of Scoglio (“You were the little brother of all of us. As an older brother I entrust you to Scoglio, Ricciardi and Currò. One day that team will be reunited”), the entrance onto the field of the two teams with a shirt in memory of the great Giallorossi striker (Ciao Totò), accompanied by the notes of the soundtrack of the Italia ’90 World Cup “Un’estate Italiana (Notti Magiche)” and, finally, a minute of silence before the kick-off whistle.

The match, however, is another mockery for Messina who, ahead by two goals, is forced to a draw by Casertana. Good first half for Mister Modica’s team who, in less than twenty minutes, strikes with Petrungaro, with a header on a cross from Ortisi (1′), and with Luciani who, served by Garofalo (17′ st), skips Zanellati and scores the doubling. In the second half Messina is too relaxed and Casertana, thanks also to the substitutions, takes advantage: Carretta moves in from the right and, with his left, shortens the distance at 21′, while at 31′ Manetta commits a foul in the area on Bakayoko, and the former Darmian from the penalty spot hits the post, then Curtosi’s back and lands the rebound for the final 2-2, which leaves the Giallorossi with much regret.

Modica resigns

“With great regret for me and for the good of the city, I am no longer the coach of Messina. I resign irrevocably, I apologize for having wasted time, to the city, to the fans, I thank the president for the opportunity to drive a beautiful car called Messina. I thank the players who are wonderful, but I finish because my health is worth more. I thank everyone, there are no longer any prerequisites to continue, I stop here”, with these few words the coach Giacomo Modica, at the end of the match with Casertana, leaves the bench of the Giallorossi.

Messina president Pietro Sciotto, however, announced that he rejected Mr. Modica’s resignation. “Not only do I reject it, but I renew my trust in him even more than before.”
President Sciotto concludes.
