Messina, the night pilgrimage to Dinnammare is cancelled due to fires: it had only happened during the pandemic

Skip the traditional night pilgrimage of the painting of the Madonna di Dinnammare from Larderia to the sanctuary located on top of the mountain: the unexpected decision is linked to the fires broke out this afternoon in some hilly and mountainous areas of Messina, fueled by the strong sirocco wind. This was reported after a meeting with those responsible for the Forest Rangers and with Archbishop Giovanni Accolla he was the rector of the sanctuary Msgr. Nino Caminiti.
“An event awaited by hundreds of faithful and walkers, who had already prepared their backpacks for the walk that was supposed to start at night from the square in front of the church of San Giovanni in Larderia Inferiore”, said the priest.
Change of program for the evening: at the end of the mass celebrated at midnight by the bishop emeritus of Trapani Msgr. Francesco Miccichèthe painting of the Madonna of Dinnammare will be carried in procession to the nearby church of San BiagioTomorrow morning the faithful will reach Dinnammare by vehicle and will walk the last stretch of the journey from the repeaters to the sanctuary where the day of celebrations will take place.
The first mass of the day will be celebrated at 7.30amchaired by Bishop Santo Rocco Gangemi apostolic nuncio in Serbia; the other morning celebrations will be at 9, 10.30 and 12, while in the afternoon there will be one every hour from 16 to 23. On Monday morning, after the 6 o’clock mass presided over by Monsignor Nino Caminiti, the painting will return to the village, in the church of San Biagio. The celebration of the masses in San Giovanni is scheduled for 8 and 11.30. In the afternoon at 18, after the blessing of the bearers, the procession of the simulacrum of the Madonna of Dinnammare will pass through the streets of Larderia, accompanied by the town band.
In respect of the memory of John Arigowho died tragically in the explosion of the fireworks factory, the parish community of Larderia has decided to cancel the fireworks display; in its place, many colored balloons will be flown and a fundraiser has been promoted that will be donated to the victim’s family.
