The Monumental Complex of San Giovanni, among the identity symbols of Catanzaro, is preparing to experience a new season of rebirth. After years of transformations, the Monumental Complex will soon become a space capable of generating culture, inclusion and participation. Another significant step towards the regeneration of one of the most representative places of the city was taken thanks to the Public Notice jointly promoted by the Municipality of Catanzaro, the Magna Graecia University and the Con il Sud Foundation, which led to the selection of the project presented by Agorà Kroton Società Cooperativa Sociale a rl, identified to transform the San Giovanni into a lively, inclusive and sustainable cultural centre, open to the whole community.
The partnership led by Agorà Kroton, which involves local organisations, proposes an innovative model capable of combining culture, education and social inclusion. The objective is to transform San Giovanni into an authentic collaborative and generative ecosystem, a point of reference for the cultural and social life of the city.
Now the executive co-planning phase begins in which the organizations promoting the project will be involved which will lead to the definition of the special public-private partnership agreement with the Municipality and the Magna Graecia University. The Foundation with the South will be able to support the initiative with a contribution of up to 500 thousand euros. At the end of the co-planning phase expected in the next few months, the contents of the project, with details on the multi-year valorisation and use of the Complex, will be presented with a specific communication campaign.
“This project represents a fundamental step for the valorization of San Giovanni and for the cultural and social growth of our city – declared the mayor of Catanzaro, Nicola Fiorita -. Through the tool of the public-private partnership, a virtuous model is created which sees the Municipality participating in every phase, from co-planning to management, together with the other institutional and social subjects involved. It is a method that strengthens the link between the institutions and the community and which demonstrates how the public and private sectors can combine forces and skills to generate value shared.”
Along the same lines, the President of the Foundation with the South, Stefano Consiglio, underlined: “The San Giovanni Complex in Catanzaro will soon host new opportunities for the community, with opportunities to strengthen ties and promote work and social integration. We are very happy with this result which is the result of an important collaboration between public and private social sectors, a synergy in which we firmly believe and in which the Foundation with the South has been investing for some time now, in the belief that it is fundamental to give life to experiences of regeneration, change and true development and lasting of our South”.
“This innovative model – declared the rector of the Magna Graecia University of Catanzaro, Giovanni Cuda – will bring further value to cultural and social life. The University of Catanzaro is an active part in this development and valorisation process which perfectly combines training and inclusion in the heart of the historic center of the city. The project will give a new life to the monumental complex of San Giovanni, the place where all the higher education activities of the UMG have taken place for years and which will be further strengthened with targeted and shared”.
