A Michigan jury has convicted the mother of a teenager who fatally shot four classmates at a school near Detroit of manslaughter, after prosecutors argued that she and her husband were also responsible for giving her son a gun and ignoring the signs of his violence.

According to the American media, the trial against 45-year-old Jennifer Crumbley is the first trial in the USA in which a parent has been accused of manslaughter resulting from a school shooting by his child. There are four counts of manslaughter in this case, one for each of the Oxford High School victims in the 2021 shooting.

Her husband, James Crumbley, 47, will face a similar trial in March. The couple’s son, Ethan, was 15 at the time he shot up a school with a semiautomatic pistol. He pleaded guilty in 2022 to four counts of first-degree murder and other charges and was sentenced to life in prison without parole in December.
