Giuseppe LombardoDeputy Prosecutor of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Reggio Calabria, was awarded in Casoli, in the province of Chieti, with the prize dedicated to Lea Garofalocourageous witness of justice brutally killed by the ‘Ndrangheta in Milan on 24 November 2009 by her partner Carlo Cosco and by an accomplice, Rosario Curcio, originally from Petilia Policastro, in the province of Crotone, leading figures of the Calabrian ‘Ndrangheta transplanted to Lombardy. Lea Garofalo had tried by every means to guarantee a better future for her daughter Denisetriggering a clash with Cosco, until the final tragedy: kidnapped with a ruse, killed and her body dissolved in acid and made to disappear in San Fruttuoso, near Monza.
The event, in its second edition, is organized by the ‘Dioghenes’ Aps association, in collaboration with the newspaper WordNews.it, with the support of the national press office ‘Lo Scriptorium’, of ‘Romanzi Italiani’ and by the Institute «Algeri Marino» high school, with the aim of spreading the tragic story of Lea Garofalo, especially among young people, transmitting the values that characterized the lives of many men and women who fought against the mafias, even at the cost of their own life. Giuseppe Lombardo, magistrate of the DDA of Reggio Calabria, he is the owner, among others, of the ‘Meta’, ‘Ghota’ and ‘Ndrangheta massacre’ investigations, which have characterized the activities of the District Attorney’s Office over the last fifteen years, bringing to light the dangerous links between the so-called ‘white collars’ and the deviant freemasons, with the powerful ‘families’ of Reggio represented by the De Stefano, the Condello, the Tegano families, the greatest representatives of the ‘Central Mandamento’. In the reasons behind the recognition of the ‘Garofalo’ prize to Giuseppe Lombardo, “the commitment made in the fight against mafia-type organized crime and in particular because has conducted the main preliminary investigation activities since 2006 and oversaw the subsequent trials, aimed at reconstructing the criminal dynamics, composition and current command structure of the ‘Ndrangheta in the world, pstarting from the ramifications of the main gangs operating in the province of Reggio Calabria and neighboring territories and for having conducted the main preliminary investigation activities aimed at ascertaining the relationships between the ‘Ndrangheta and sectors of politics, public administration and entrepreneurship”
