New Year’s Eve in Messina, woody material removed to use for bonfires

The control activity of the territory has continued for days as part of the protection and urban decoration program desired by theBasile Administration in order to also guarantee public safety and security in view of New Year’s Eve.
The operations conducted by the agents of the Environmental Section, directed by the commander of the Metropolitan Police Giovanni Giardina, in synergy with the operators of the Messinaservizi Communal Goodand and the support of the police, concerned the removal of woody material.

In particular yesterday, Saturday 30 December, a good part of the material was removed in the Giostra area and the Annibale district in Bordonaro; while today, Sunday 31 December, the reclamation activity once again involved the Annibale district, where 13,500 kilograms of woody material were collected.

“The material taken, probably, in view of the so-called bonfires at the end of the year – recalls the mayor Federico Basile – causes serious damage to the environment and a serious danger to the citizens”. “I thank the Local Police and the Police Commissioner for their synergy of intent – ​​adds Basile – in joint actions to avoid dangers. We must guarantee safety and legality to citizens, which is why we have intensified inspections, checks and controls. We will keep our attention high and will continue to monitor and control the city areas, also through the operators of Messinaservizi Bene Comune, available throughout today”, concludes Basile.
