It was traveling at a dangerous speed along the Mediterranean A2, heading south. When the traffic police ordered him to stop, the chase began. The car was finally blocked inside the Agip Ovest service area, near the Villa San Giovanni junction. According to what the officers ascertained, there were over two kilos of cocaine on board. It happened on the evening of September 8, 2026.
The car was intercepted by the traffic police patrols of the subsections of Palmi and Reggio Calabria Nord, engaged in extraordinary checks of the territory and surveillance of the main Calabrian roads to combat drug trafficking. After identifying the vehicle, which was proceeding at a dangerous speed, the officers followed it until they managed to route it safely and block it in the service area.
During the check, the young driver, originally from Sicily, appeared particularly agitated. A behavior that pushed the officers to investigate further and proceed with a personal and vehicle search. The search led to the discovery of over 2.1 kilograms of cocaine, packaged in two blocks and hidden, according to the police reconstruction, inside the passenger compartment and the luggage compartment. Over 800 euros in cash were also found in the car, which was also seized.
At the end of the investigations, and with the coordination of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Reggio Calabria, the young man was arrested red-handed on charges of possession of narcotic substances for the purpose of dealing. He was transferred to the Arghillà prison, at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
