Britain’s Princess Catherine took a significant step in her recovery from cancer by today attending her first major royal event since finishing chemotherapy.

Kate smiled and applauded alongside husband Prince William at the Festival of Remembrance commemorative concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall. The musical event is one of the most important dates in the royal calendar, along with tomorrow’s more solemn ceremony at the Cenotaph war memorial, both honoring Britain’s war dead.

Kate and William were joined in the royal box by King Charles III, who is still undergoing treatment for his cancer diagnosis. Buckingham Palace announced in February that Charles, 75, had been diagnosed with an undisclosed cancer and would be retiring from public life to undergo treatment. The following month Kate, 42, revealed that she had also been diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy.
