Over a hundred State Police officers held a sit-in protest this morning in front of the Reggio Calabria Police Headquarters on the issues of safety and work organisation. «The reasons for the protest are very simple – the national secretary of SIULP told journalists, Happy Roman – they fall into a delicate international context, with the risk of attacks, and in a land, like Calabria, tormented by organized crime, situations in which women and men of the State Police work in impossible conditions: understaffed, poorly paid, without means ».
«In this context – continued Romano – those who manage also get involved, making the situation lacking in serenity and impartiality in favor of other organizations close to the government structure, which with the excuse of picking up some cards, undermine the serenity of those who are working against crime.
The day before yesterday – he added – we were together with the CISL protesting at Palazzo Vidoni against the part of the Decree that gives four years in prison to those who march peacefully, and this is not the response that the country needs. The country needs a well-trained security apparatus and has the personnel to guarantee control of the territory and, above all, respected and well paid. There is no need to increase – he concluded – the statutory penalties when no one goes to prison”.
