The president of the association “Pinetamare Together” Anna Rose met the Provincial Commander of the Carabinieri of Vibo Valentia, Colonel Luke Toti and Chief 2nd Class Giuseppe Francolino, commander of the local maritime office of the Coast Guard of Pizzo, to discuss the issue of the protection of the Calabrian sea, with particular reference to the stretch of sea located in the Colamaio di Pizzo area.
During the meeting, Toti illustrated the activities of the joint task force between the Carabinieri of the Territorial and Forestry Corps with the Port Authority. These activities, coordinated by the Prosecutor Camillo Falvoinclude rigorous environmental controls – with constant support for the immediate results of numerous analyses of the Anton Dohrn and Arpacal Zoological Station – on the accommodation facilities located in the area and along the 52 km of the “Costa degli Dei” in the province of Vibo Valentia. In particular, in-depth monitoring of the purification systems was carried out during the three previous summer seasons and in the current one. The data collected indicates very comforting results compared to the past, although we must not let our guard down. The strong commitment of the Prefect Paolo Giovanni Grieco in finding solutions to the problem of marine pollution was also underlined, involving, through specific technical tables in the Prefecture, the mayors of the area, the Calabria region and the police forces.
Despite the favorable feedback, the environmental monitoring plan will continue throughout the summer season. The checks will continue to focus on wastewater treatment systems and the quality of industrial wastewater, as well as the hygienic-sanitary compliance of new accommodation facilities. The controls will also concern livestock farms to verify compliance with environmental regulations. These control operations include chemical and microbiological analysis of water, ensuring compliance with current environmental regulations.
