Novak Djokovic took issue with the Wimbledon crowd after beating Holger Rune to reach the quarter-finals at the All England for the 15th time. “They disrespected me,” complained the 37-year-old Serbian former world number one, “I don’t accept it. With the excuse of cheering for one, they booed me, I’ve been in the game for more than 20 years and trust me, I know all the tricks, I know how it works. You can’t touch me.”
Djokovic won 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in just over two hours despite apparent stomach problems at the start of the second set but did not appreciate a particularly noisy centre court that repeatedly chanted the name of his Danish opponent. The seven-time Wimbledon winner will now have to deal with Alex de Minaur who won 6-2, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 over Frenchman Arthur Fils.
Even before the match, Djokovic had said that there would be “fireworks” with Rune having already beaten him twice.
