At the ASP of Crotone, a clinic specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of psoriasis directed by the dermatologist Giuseppe Fabrizio Amoruso is now operational, the only territorial dermatology center in the province authorized to prescribe biotechnological and innovative medicines.
Psoriasis represents the most widespread inflammatory skin pathology and affects almost 2 million people in Italy – approximately 3% of the population – of which over 50 thousand in Calabria. One in three suffers from a moderate-severe form with a significant impact on quality of life.
“Many people consider it just a skin disease – explains Amoruso, but in reality it is very complex and involves various organs and systems, with psychological repercussions such as anxiety, stress and depression, affecting in particular the social and relational sphere of the individual”.
Therapy has made great strides in the last ten years with the arrival of biological treatments for moderate-severe skin forms and for psoriatic arthritis, innovating treatment methods and improving patients’ quality of life. “The Calabria Region has recognized Crotone as a prescribing center for innovative drugs in the dermatological field – continues Amoruso – now the people of Crotone have at their disposal a point of territorial excellence where they can access all the latest generation therapies which, if taken promptly, can change the lives of people with psoriasis in just a few weeks. Some of these are taken every three months and can help to achieve completely clean skin in almost totality of patients.”
