What will be the future of Reggina? Whoever owns it, the owner Ballarino and his partner Virgilio Minniti, did not have a lucky path amidst initial and critical difficulties. They had only one chance to change things: the results, which did not arrive. Partly due to lack of good luck, partly due to management errors.
It was the worst Reggina ever in over 112 years of history, with the fourth consecutive D tournament upon us (barring miracles). Not even in C2 had she ever stayed so long. This is why saying – as we have heard – that top championships have always been held in the last three years only serves to embitter people.
A championship like the one that just ended could only be won. For this reason, never like this year has there been the impression that everyone was inadequate: ownership, management, coaches and team. The point in favor of Ballarino and Minniti is that, compared to all the others, they have used resources.
Last Sunday the intention to sell the shares free of charge was expressed. Be careful, however: this does not mean that taking over Reggina does not involve an economic outlay. You should look at the budgets, understand if there are any debts, which ones and how many would become the responsibility of whoever arrives. It would also be a way to estimate the solidity of would-be owners.
Now, however, the crossroads is clear. If today Ballarino and Minniti left the baton, they would be remembered as two entrepreneurs who rebuilt Reggina and tried to make it great, but were unable to do so due to a series of contingencies. And for this they should be thanked.
If the conditions for a change were not created and we had to continue without the will to build a team capable of winning the next championship by a landslide, their passage into Amaranthian history could become less positive. With box office receipts at their lowest and perhaps greater difficulty in finding sponsors, would Reggina be ready for greater investments? The fans are more interested in knowing how the playoffs and the appeal on the Messina case will go (hearing on May 12).
